Description
A series of pulleys demonstrate the ability to use an equal amount of force to lift several different masses or that the amount of force needed to lift a mass is reduced as more pulleys are used.
Equipment
- system of pulleys
- masses
- force scales
- diagrams of pulley arrangements
Instructions
Arrange the pulleys according to the diagrams. The first setup shows that through the use of pulleys, the same amount of force can lift a different amount of mass. The second setup shows that the amount of force needed to lift a mass is reduced as more pulleys are used.
