Description

Two speakers, each attached to their own signal generator and connected to an oscilloscope demonstrate beating if their frequencies are slightly different.

Equipment

  • two frequency generators
  • two speakers
  • oscilloscope
  • two multimeters
  • various cables

Instructions

Attach the output of each function generator to its respective speaker as well as to the input of an oscilloscope. You can use two multimeters to monitor the signal frequency of each generator. When the two signals are slightly different in frequency, a beating can be heard from the speakers and the beating signal can be observed on the screen of the oscilloscope.
